Coach In-Person Interview Guide

15-Minute Group Fitness Instructor Interview

The goal during your initial 15 minute interview is to see if the potential coach could be a potential fit for you club. Feel free to deviate from the questions below to create an organic, casual, and comfortable atmosphere for the potential coach. At least 24 hours in advance of the in person interview, ensure the potential coach has completed the Pre Interview Coach Application. This will ensure you’ve collected all information such as availability, desired coaching frequency, and salary range.

Experience & Credentials (3 minutes)

  1. What certifications do you currently hold, and what formats do you teach most often?

  2. How long have you been teaching group fitness, and in what types of settings?

  3. What motivates you to teach group fitness, and what makes you a great fit for our community?

Teaching Style & Class Management (4 minutes)

  1. How would you describe your teaching style?

  2. How do you handle a class with mixed fitness levels?

  3. How do you keep participants motivated and engaged throughout class?

Safety & Professionalism (3 minutes)

  1. How do you correct form while keeping participants comfortable?

  2. Tell us how you modify exercises for common limitations or injuries.

  3. Have you ever dealt with an injury or safety issue during class? How did you respond?

Scenario Questions (4 minutes)

  1. How do you maintain your own energy and avoid burnout?

  2. Your equipment or music fails mid-class. How do you handle it?

  3. Attendance has been low for a few weeks. What steps would you take?
